Food benefits can be both easy and flexible.

SNAP

SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and provides food benefits for adults or families with a low income.

SNAP puts benefits on an electronic card like a debit card. It can then be used to buy groceries in regular grocery stores.

SNAP benefits may be used to purchase most foods at participating stores.

You get SNAP benefits on your card once a month and can use them usually up to a year after they’ve been loaded.

You should know that you can’t buy tobacco, alcohol, or things that aren’t food or drink with SNAP.

They may not be used to purchase tobacco, pet food, paper products, soap products, or alcoholic beverages.

Eligible households must be given the opportunity to receive SNAP benefits no later than thirty days from the date of application. Individuals with special circumstances must be given an opportunity to receive SNAP benefits no later than seven days from the date of application.

We can help eligible families with children age 2 and younger, adoptive parents, biological fathers of unborn children, and pregnant woman apply for SNAP.

WIC

WIC is a food assistance program for low income women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum. WIC–which stands for Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children–can also help you buy food for your baby or young children.

Families who receive WIC benefits get supplemental food for themselves during their pregnancy, after their baby is born, and for any of the circumstances listed below:

  • Children up to 5 years of age
  • Infants
  • Breastfeeding women who have had a baby in the last 12 months
  • Women who have had a baby in the last 6 months

WIC provides basic nutritious foods to eligible pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, as well as infants and children. These foods are rich in protein, iron, calcium, fiber and vitamins.

Babies can get food like infant cereal, baby food, and formula through WIC.

The short-term food assistance program also provides health and nutritional information to keep pregnant women and babies healthy.

We can help eligible families with children age 2 and younger, adoptive parents, biological fathers of unborn children, and pregnant woman apply for WIC.

Biological fathers of unborn children do not qualify for WIC. They have to wait until baby is born if they are going to apply for benefits for their baby (if the mom is not applying/dad has custody of baby without mom)
